FOND DU LAC, Wis. — A Milwaukee man who prosecutors say supplied the fentanyl behind a Fond du Lac woman’s fatal overdose was sentenced on Friday to 30 years, split evenly between time behind bars and time under supervision after his release.
Judge Tricia Walker ordered Keyandre J. Fowler to spend a decade and a half in prison, followed by an equal stretch on extended supervision, the Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office said. A jury found Fowler guilty on June 26 of first-degree reckless homicide, more than four months before Friday’s hearing.
The woman died on Dec. 14, 2024. District Attorney Eric J. Toney described Fowler as the Milwaukee source of the drugs that caused her death. Her name has not been released.
The prison term landed at the low end of what the state wanted. Prosecutors had asked for 20 to 30 years behind bars plus 15 to 20 years of supervision. Under the charge, Fowler could have received up to 46 years in confinement and two more decades of supervision.
Toney said the outcome should warn anyone dealing fentanyl that a sale ending in a death means prison, no matter which city the seller calls home. He added that parents around Wisconsin are still burying sons and daughters lost to the drug, and that his office will keep backing those families and the officers who work these cases.
Officers from the Fond du Lac Police Department led the investigation, and the Lake Winnebago Area Drug Unit assisted. Toney handled the prosecution along with an assistant prosecutor from his office.
The sentence closes a case that began nearly two years ago with the woman’s death in Fond du Lac and ended with a Milwaukee man held responsible for selling the drug that killed her.
