MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee’s World Series champion Brewers could add more hardware next week. Four members of the club landed among the three finalists for major Baseball Writers’ Association of America awards announced Monday night. Voting by the writers took place at the end of the regular season, before the playoffs began.
Right-hander Jacob Misiorowski leads the group as a strong favorite for the National League Cy Young Award. The 24-year-old put up a 1.80 ERA and led the league with 252 strikeouts over 175 innings, the best year a Brewers starter has ever had. Atlanta’s Chris Sale and Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez are the other two finalists.
Manager Pat Murphy, who guided Milwaukee to a club-record 103 wins and its first championship, is up for NL Manager of the Year again. A win would make him the first manager to take the award three seasons in a row. Philadelphia’s Don Mattingly and Atlanta’s Walt Weiss are the other candidates.
Second baseman Brice Turang, a Gold Glove winner who hit a career-high 21 home runs, is a finalist for NL MVP. He is the first Brewer to finish in the top three of MVP voting since Christian Yelich after the 2019 season, though Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Cubs, who joined the 40-40 club, is seen as the front-runner, with Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers also in the mix.
Closer Trevor Megill, who saved 30 games with a 2.63 ERA, made the final three for the first NL Relief Pitcher of the Year award. Mason Miller of the Padres and Jhoan Duran of the Phillies are his competition.
The winners will be revealed next week.
