BROWN DEER, Wis. — A $50 million youth sports and recreation complex proposed for Brown Deer, on Milwaukee’s northern edge, now has a name and a sharper plan after its developer laid out updated concepts for village leaders this week.

Milwaukee-based Cobalt Partners took its revised layout to the Brown Deer Village Board on Monday and announced the next day that the project will be called the North Shore Sports Village.

The roughly 16-acre property sits along North Arbon Drive in northern Milwaukee County, a short distance below the West Brown Deer Road corridor.

Inside, the main building would hold ice for hockey, a turf field, and hard courts sized for volleyball and basketball, along with space for futsal, a quicker, smaller-sided form of soccer played indoors.

The updated plan goes beyond the sports building itself. Cobalt now wants the facility to anchor a broader development that would also bring a hotel, restaurants, shops and other commercial space to the property.

Public money would play a part. The developer plans to lean on a tax incremental financing district, a tool that uses future property tax growth on the site to help pay for the project’s costs.

Cobalt pitched the idea more than a year ago, in July 2025, and has since paid $3.2 million to take ownership of the land. The project still needs approval from the Brown Deer Village Board before construction could begin.

Youth sports travel has become a steady draw for hotels and restaurants across the Milwaukee area, and a complex of this size would give families in the northern suburbs a large indoor option close to home.
