MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A Milwaukee Police Department pursuit late Tuesday ended in a wreck that left a 74-year-old motorist with serious injuries, department officials said, marking the second time in two days that someone outside a chase was hurt or killed when a fleeing car crashed.

Officers spotted reckless driving along West Villard Avenue around the 4000 block about 9:47 p.m. Nov. 3, including a car cutting through an intersection and a busy business lot. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver refused and the chase began, police said.

The pursuit ended where West Capitol Drive meets North 35th Street after the fleeing car struck another vehicle. The 74-year-old behind the wheel of the car that was hit was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. A 32-year-old man who had been driving the fleeing car was arrested and also taken for medical care. A 10-year-old passenger in the fleeing car was taken for medical clearance, police said.

Prosecutors at the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office are expected to weigh possible charges from the chase crash.

Two nights earlier, another pursuit ended with a fatal crash at South Layton Boulevard and West Greenfield Avenue when a fleeing car struck a vehicle whose driver later died. That fleeing driver, a 36-year-old man, was hospitalized and arrested, with charges pending.

Police data cited in local tallies put four chase-related deaths so far in 2026, three of them in October, after none in the first half of the year. In 2025, nine people died in pursuit-related crashes, including six third parties who were not part of the chase.

Tuesday’s crash investigation remains open while county prosecutors decide what charges, if any, to file against the 32-year-old driver.
