MILWAUKEE, Wis. — One person died after a violent confrontation on the city’s north side Thursday evening, and Milwaukee Police Department detectives said a 22-year-old was taken into custody near the intersection of North 12th Street and West Walnut Street.

Responding officers arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 and found the victim with fatal injuries. Medical personnel pronounced the person dead where the fight unfolded. Police said the younger adult was arrested at the scene while investigators worked to reconstruct how the battery began.

Department spokespeople said the file should head next to county prosecutors so the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office can decide which charges fit the evidence. Detectives described the surrounding facts as still under review and asked neighbors who saw or heard the fight to come forward.

Tips can go straight to Milwaukee police tip lines, and people who want to stay anonymous can use Crime Stoppers. Commanders said they are treating the death as a battery that turned fatal and will update the public as charging decisions take shape.

The intersection sits in a busy stretch of the near north side where evening foot traffic and bar activity often overlap. Police urged anyone with video, texts or firsthand accounts from Thursday night to share them quickly while investigators finish canvassing nearby blocks.

No suspect name has been released, and police have not said whether the people involved knew each other before the fight. Detectives asked nearby businesses to preserve security video from the dinner hour through late evening.
