News Summary
Sageview High School is set to welcome its first students on August 26, coinciding with back-to-school week. With an estimated enrollment of 1,140 students, traffic congestion is anticipated to peak during school hours due to both student arrivals and ongoing road construction. Officials urge parents to utilize designated drop-off areas and remain aware of traffic patterns as the community adapts to this new educational facility.
Pasco – The much-anticipated Sageview High School will officially open its doors on August 26, 2025, welcoming its first cohort of students. This new educational facility will cater to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, with an estimated enrollment of 1,140 students and a staff of approximately 100 teachers and support personnel. The opening coincides with back-to-school week in the Tri-Cities area, raising concerns about increased traffic congestion, particularly along Burns Road.
As parents prepare for the school’s inaugural year, traffic congestion is expected to peak during school hours due to the influx of students and current road construction projects. On the first day of school, only freshmen will attend, while sophomores and juniors will join on August 27. School hours are set from 7:44 a.m. to 2:37 p.m., with early release at 1:50 p.m. on Thursdays. Morning traffic is expected to be busy from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., while afternoon traffic peaks shortly after school ends at 2:30 p.m.
To facilitate student drop-offs and pick-ups, parents are advised to use the designated area located in front of the school, near the flagpole. Multiple exit points from the front parking lot will be available to ease the flow of traffic, and school security and administrators will be on hand to help direct vehicles. Students have access to parking in the northeast lot and will enter the building from the northern side.
In light of the expected traffic surge, local officials have implemented several measures to manage potential congestion. Construction work may complicate commutes, particularly with the closure of Broadmoor Boulevard from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. during August 25-27. Detour routes will be provided to navigate around this closure. Road improvements along Burns Road, including new traffic signals installed at Burns Road and Roads 60 & 64, aim to streamline traffic flow in the area.
The intersection of Burns Road and Road 68 is currently the busiest in the Tri-Cities, handling approximately 49,500 vehicles daily. Plans are underway to address ongoing traffic concerns, including the completion of the missing link project for Burns Road between Convention Drive and Road 68, which is expected to alleviate future congestion issues. In light of the anticipated growth in the region, a planned traffic signal project at Burns Road and Road 68 may be prioritized to further improve traffic flow.
As the new school year commences, Pasco County encourages residents to report traffic trouble spots via an online Transportation Request Form. Enhancements are also being made through the installation of a Miovision Detection System designed to monitor traffic conditions and adjust signals in real-time, aimed at improving traffic management smartly and efficiently.
As the community prepares for the challenges ahead with the opening of Sageview High School, residents are asked to remain patient and plan for extended travel times as new traffic patterns are established. Officials emphasize the importance of keeping bus drop-off areas clear, obeying traffic signals, and being mindful of student crosswalks and signage, ensuring a smooth transition for all involved in the upcoming school year.
