Mahtomedi, Minnesota – Mahtomedi High School has canceled their homecoming football game, originally scheduled for Friday night, due to ongoing law enforcement activity in the vicinity of the high school campus. The decision was taken out of an abundance of caution for community safety, following guidance from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The game, which was to feature Mahtomedi against the Bloomington Kennedy Eagles, will not be rescheduled at this time. Fans who purchased electronic tickets for the event will be eligible for a refund.
The cancellation comes on the heels of an emergency situation reported to law enforcement around 5 p.m. when a 911 call indicated a possible kidnapping linked to a robbery at gunpoint. This incident took place in the 7300 block of Inwood Way North in Grant, Minnesota, just a short distance from the high school.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered three victims at the scene. Fortunately, all involved were unharmed. Witnesses reported seeing two black males, described as having black dreadlocks, with heights estimated between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall. They were dressed in predominantly black and brown clothing and were reported to be armed.
As of 9 p.m. on Friday, law enforcement officials had yet to apprehend the suspects, although they stated that they did not believe the individuals were still in the immediate area. To ensure public safety, authorities advised residents nearby to shelter in place and to refrain from approaching anyone they may find suspicious.
Residents have been encouraged to report any activity that appears out of the ordinary by alerting authorities through a 911 call. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the situation, focusing efforts in the area of 75th Street North and Inwood Way North.
This incident has prompted significant concern in the community, as safety remains a top priority, especially in a setting typically filled with school spirit and activity, such as a homecoming football game. Authorities are actively working to gather more evidence and information regarding the suspects involved while ensuring the safety of attendees and residents alike.
The cancellation of the high school football game adds to the growing list of events impacted by safety concerns in schools and public spaces. With the current situation still unfolding, the local community remains on alert as they await further updates and resolutions from law enforcement.
