West Branch High School Students Fundraise with Storage Shed Raffle
West Branch, MI – Students from the Construction Trades program at West Branch High School have completed a 10- by 12-foot storage shed that will be raffled off to fund future activities in the program. The shed represents both the hard work of the students and an effort to secure resources for their construction education, allowing future learners to benefit from the program.
The shed was built as part of the Career Connections Apprenticeship Program, designed to provide hands-on learning experiences necessary for students interested in carpentry and construction. Through the program, participants gain essential skills in various construction techniques, including wall construction, roofing, foundation layout, trim carpentry, soffit and fascia installation, rafter layout, sheathing, and joist layout.
Completing the third-year coursework in this program can lead to a Career Connections Certification, as well as 12 alternative graduation credits. Additionally, students can attain a state certification as apprentice carpenters, further preparing them for careers in the construction industry.
The raffle for the completed shed will be an important fundraising initiative to ensure that students in the Construction Trades program have access to necessary resources and opportunities. Each raffle ticket costs $20, and proceeds will go directly towards the program, helping to sustain the quality of education offered to students. Tickets are available for purchase during home football games, through the high school office, or directly from students enrolled in Rodger Sharp’s Building Construction Trades class. The shed will be on display at these events, allowing community members to appreciate the students’ craftsmanship.
The drawing for the raffle will be held at the final home football game on October 17, 2025. Community participation in this initiative is encouraged, as it directly benefits the educational experience of local students aspiring to enter the construction field.
This project reflects the commitment of West Branch High School to provide its students with practical skills and experiences that prepare them for successful careers. Superintendent Micki Egli indicated that the construction of the shed epitomizes the dedication and hard work demonstrated by students while contributing to the overall sustainability of the Construction Trades program.
