The accident occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. in a construction zone on the northbound side of the highway, just south of exit 3, where the left travel lane had been closed for ongoing work.

The driver of the vehicle, a Dodge Durango, was identified as 38-year-old Osvaldo Vela, a resident of Yonkers, New York. Following the incident, Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene by Greenwich EMS around 3 a.m. Osvaldo Vela sustained minor injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital for medical attention.

In the wake of this tragic event, the state police, Greenwich Fire Department, and the state’s Department of Transportation personnel were present at the accident scene. The northbound lanes of I-95 were temporarily closed during the investigation, reopening just before 10 a.m. The incident is currently under investigation by state police. As of Saturday afternoon, no charges have been filed.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner expressed deep condolences to Tucker’s family while highlighting the increased risks faced by personnel working on highways.
