Milwaukee is gearing up for a weekend of family-friendly autumn events as the season officially starts on September 22. Residents and visitors can expect lively activities from September 26 to 28 during the annual Harvest Fair at Wisconsin State Fair Park, which will feature seasonal attractions, new flavors of the iconic Cream Puff, including Pumpkin Spice and Apple Crisp.

The Harvest Fair promises an exciting array of experiences, including free samples from Culver’s Curdtoberfest, a Bavarian-inspired Root Beer Garden with live entertainment, lumberjack shows, pumpkin bowling, and a make-your-own scarecrow area. This event aims to engage families with various activities designed for children, as well as provide a fun atmosphere for all ages.

In addition to the Harvest Fair, families can tune in to Kids’ Disco on 88.9 FM Radio Milwaukee, which takes place on Saturdays from 9-10 a.m., offering a mix of family-friendly music suitable for young listeners. Parents seeking more autumn-related fun can explore the Family Fall Fun Guide that details various activities around Milwaukee, including visits to apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes.

The Milwaukee County Zoo will be welcoming guests from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, and on September 27, it will host an animal enrichment day. This event is an excellent opportunity for families to learn about animal care and watch enrichment activities designed to stimulate the animals in their habitats.

As the summer season winds down, a few events are concluding soon. The Eastown Association’s Jazz in the Park series wraps up on September 25 with a performance by a Grateful Dead tribute band, Another One. Meanwhile, bike and scooter rentals in Milwaukee will continue year-round, though some rental stations may close during the winter months.

The end of summer also means many beer gardens are preparing to close for the season. The Whitnall Beer Garden will hold its final day of operation on October 12, followed closely by the Elm Grove Beer Garden on October 11.

Local farmers markets are also winding down, with the Walker Square Farmers Market hosting its last market on September 28. However, other markets, such as the Cathedral Square Market, will remain open until October 12.

Several fall festivals are on the calendar, further enriching the autumn vibe in the area. Highlights include the Cedarburg’s 51st Annual Wine & Harvest Festival from September 20-21, featuring live music, grape stomping, and pumpkin weigh-ins. The Mukwonago Fall Fest on September 20 will offer free admission and includes local crafts, a chili cook-off, and children’s activities.

Piala’s Nursery & Garden Shop will host Piala’s Fall Festival on September 27-28, featuring crafts and live music, while the Greenfield Fall Family Fest on October 4 at Konkel Park will provide inflatables, a petting zoo, and gaming activities for kids. Later in the season, the 25th Annual Fall Fair to Remember in West Bend will take place on October 24-25 with local crafters and kids’ activities, and the Great Pumpkin Festival at Old School House Park will be held from October 22-25.

Families can also look forward to the popular Boo at the Zoo event, scheduled for October 17-19 and 24-26, featuring a trick-or-treat trail and various family-friendly activities.

As outdoor activities continue throughout the fall, families are encouraged to participate in guided farm tours and enjoy live music across Milwaukee and its surrounding communities. To stay informed about forthcoming family-friendly events, families can subscribe to the Milwaukee With Kids email list for a personal weekend guide delivered every Thursday.

This weekend is a prime opportunity for families in Milwaukee to embrace the joys of autumn through engaging activities and cherished traditions.
